Whimsical, detailed, and often mechanized, Barry Wheeler's creations are not the typical blacksmith products. Barry combines his training and experience in traditional blacksmithing with other metalworking skills to create items that make people smile.

Kim specializes an Ohio-based ironworker who specializes in restoration and reproduction of historical masterworks in iron.

Milk & Honey Acres is a family farm in Loudonville, OH that raises grass-fed heritage livestock without hormones, antibiotics or vaccines. They will be showcasing their goat milk soap and handwoven products.

Linda Weaver is local to the Holmes County area and teaches small classes in traditional rug braiding.
|
Brian and Susan are owners of Chelaubree Farm and members of the Malabar Farm Spinning & Weaving Guild. Susan spins alpaca, angora rabbit, and other fibers into yarn and knit & crochet finished items. Handspun yarn and finished goods will be available for purchase.

Sandra is another local artisan who specializes in tatting, a technique for creating lace with specialized knots and loops. She often travels and demonstrates at shows with her husband Leonard Kille, a period firearms builder.

Andrea is a multimedia artist who creates carved wooden animals from fallen wood and incorporates antique materials to complete them. Her work is influenced by the personification of animals often seen in 19th century American culture, but expressed through the personality she finds hiding within the shape of the wood that defines each creature.

Drew Hocevar is not only a glass blower, but also a wood carver; however, his wood carving craft is not your typical backyard pursuit - he carves and restores carousel horses for the Merry-Go-Round Museum in Sandusky, OH (where John Blazar, another exhibitor at this year's event, also carves). You may not know it, but you've likely seen Drew on the big screen, especially around Christmas each year since he played the role of Male Elf in A Christmas Story (1972).

Doug grew up in Ohio, trained as a fine art painter, is a musician, and is widely know for his work as a luthier and teacher. His instruments are highly valued and appreciated for the detail and genuine craftsmanship that he injects. However, his willingness to share his knowledge and craft with other builders and musicians may be a contribution to music that's just as valuable.

Leonard is a a master gun builder from Salem, Ohio who does exacting work building and restoring period firearms. One of his recent restorations was the E. F. Buchel gun, which suffered severe damage in a fire. His wife, Sandra, who does tatting, often travels with him to shows where they both showcase their work and products.

Bill is a frequent demonstrator at Artisan Guild events showing and teaching visitors how gun barrels were bored and rifled. His tools are either original or built to replicate the function of original barrel rifling tools that would have been used in period gunsmith shops.

William is a historian at the Marietta Museums in Marietta, Ohio, a member of The Association of Ohio Long Rifle Collectors, and is a woodworker and period gun builder.

David Fisher is a Pennsylvania bowl carver who is well-known in the green woodworking field. His style is recognizable as his own and is the result of over twenty years of learning, listening, and doing.

Growing up in Ayacucho, Peru, which has been around since about 1540, Fredy Huamán Mallqui had been surrounded by a rich history including centuries-old architecture and a legacy of craftsmanship. He started learning from master carvers at nine years old and was later trained by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture to conserve fine objects dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. After coming to the US in 2012, Fredy has done work for Fair Lane, the former home of Henry and Clara Ford, in Dearborn, Michigan, and designed and carved the decorative elements for the replica of the 1914 Estey Organ, in collaboration with The Schantz Organ Company.

Dick is a Pennsylvania wood carver and friend and student of David Fisher. He is driven to continuously improve his skills and enjoys the camaraderie found in the green woodworking world.

David is an Ohio-based woodcarver and pyrographer. He explains that while the tools and heat sources for wood burning have change, pyrography has a long lineage in traditional craft.

John carves and restores carousel horses for the Merry-Go-Round Museum in Sandusky along with Drew Holcevar (see Drew's profile above).

Dan is a Pennsylvania woodcarver who designs hand carved and painted local birds. Most are mounted on Lake Erie driftwood and uniquely crafted. His work is also found at New Towne Gallery in Millersburg, Ohio.

Located in Eastern Ohio, Rod is an accomplished carver and toolmaker. His work can been seen at New Towne Gallery in Millersburg, Ohio. A selection of his tools can be purchased online at Stadtlander Woodcarvings.

Visiting George Washington's Mount Vernon home is usually a memorable trip for those who appreciate history; however, doing preservation work on the mansion is an entirely different experience. Preservation activities are a fact of life at the mansion, and have been for the 160 years that the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association has owned the house. Amy McAuley, one of this year's exhibitors at the Early American Artisans Fair, is one of many skilled craftspeople working on the mansion using tools and skills much more common to the 18th century.

SAPFM supports the effort to share information with others and expand their appreciation and abilities in making period furniture. As a collector, enthusiast, or academic, it is an opportunity to learn how furniture was made, how skills were acquired, how materials were used, and what processes and procedures were used to construct furniture pieces. SAPFM members meet in regional meetings, share knowledge, and help each other advance their skills through camaraderie.

A re-enactor of federal era civilian life, Daniel's favorite piece is a replica of the writing box built by Benjamin Randolph and used by Thomas Jefferson to write the Declaration of Independence. He builds boxes, chests, and accouterments using period hand tools to suit his high standard of fitness and authenticity. Daniel is recognized by both the Early American Life Directory of Traditional American Crafts and the Society of American Period Furniture Makers.

Charles is a cabinetmaker specializing in 18th century reproductions. His work is influenced by his own research into historical methods and tools. He teaching handtool woodworking classes at the Artisans Guild and builds his own moulding planes to suit his needs.
