![]() Drew Hocevar is not only a glass blower, but also a wood carver; however, his wood carving craft is not your typical backyard pursuit - he carves and restores carousel horses for the Merry-Go-Round Museum in Sandusky, OH (where John Blazar, another exhibitor at this year's event, also carves). You may not know it, but you've likely seen Drew on the big screen, especially around Christmas each year since he played the role of Male Elf in A Christmas Story (1972). "From an early age I have been enthralled with the process of making glass. It is that fascination that drew me towards making glass. There is a sense of danger and excitement that can only be felt working with molten glass, taking molten glass at over 2,000 degrees and shaping it with your hand with only the protection of a small wet newspaper! The fluid nature of liquid glass influences the shape and color patterns in my pieces. I fill my work with vibrant colors that are only accentuated by the addition of light." You can find more of Drew's work in this gallery from Medina, Ohio's 2017 Art in the Park (see first two photos). Watch the evil Santa scene from A Christmas Story (1972). The Merry-Go-Round Museum in Sandusky, OH The Early American Artisans Fair is November 1 - 2, 2019 at Harvest Ridge Event Center in Millersburg, OH. Also happening on the grounds at Harvest Ridge the same weekend is another event - Earlier Times Antiques and Folk Art Show.
